Sky Player review

After a brief delay, the hotly anticipated update has finally hit Xbox Live, and it does not disappoint!

Accessible through Video Marketplace, a single button press brings up a system update request. A few minutes later and there it is. Using the usual log in details that you'd use for www.skyplayer.com

OK, so the only viable comparison available at the moment would be the BBC iPlayer application on the PS3.

BBC iPlayer for the PS3 brings you on demand television over the past 7 days. To be honest, there isn't anything unique about having the iPlayer on the PS3, because it pretty much links you to their website. I'm pretty sure that should the Xbox 360 have Browser software in the future, that you'd be able to do the same thing. None-the-less, it was great because it was the first to provide this sort of accessability

SkyPlayer on the Xbox 360 was announced some months ago. There wasn't really much to it other than that. Then you began to see the adverts for it on tele a couple of weeks ago which suggested that its release was impending.

SkyPlayer brings with it a host of features unique to the Xbox 360. Compared to its online counter-part, the Xbox 360 update is above and beyond what I could have expected. Not only do you have your live viewing, but you have a host of on demand viewing, which to say the least was insane. Me, geoneo123 and S2K TeDDyBeaR were sitting down the night before Eurogamer Expo watching Manny Pacquiao vs Ricky Hatton. There was also a host of great films including Batman Dark Knight, Wanted and geoneo123's favourite; Masters of the Universe

To be honest, a written review does not do justice what the Sky Player on the Xbox 360 brings to home entertainment. This has been a very smart move buy Microsoft, and long may applications of this kind come!

Albeit not having the ability to record live, I give it a 9/10

Then again, when programs become available on demand anyway, recording does become pointless

*do be aware however that you must have multi-room in your Sky Package. Alternatively, sky player only packages are available also

Also note that live viewing is subject to your subscription. So no Skysports without the package.
