Golden Joystick Awards 2010 Reactions

Hear are our views on the games that walked away with awards at Golden Joysticks.

The Action/Adventure Game of the Year
Winner: Assassin's Creed 2
The annouchment was welcomed by the both of us even though it wasnt in either of our predition. We both played the game and enjoyed it over the first due to the fact that the game developer Ubisoft listened to the fan on what was missing from the first game and successfully implemented the ideas.

Download Game of the Year
Winner: Plants vs. Zombies
This was a pleasant surprise to say the least. We have both played this across all the separate formats its available on: PC, App Store and recently on the Xbox 360. It just always delivers time after time with intuitive controls and challenges. Well deserved

Fighting Game of the Year
Winner: Super Street Fighter IV
Well, there really was no surprise here. Well done Capcom. Here's looking forward to Marvel vs Capcom 3 and Tekken vs Street Fighter. That'll be a much tougher one to choose between next year

Music Game of the Year
Winner: Guitar Hero 5
Shock horror this was. In all honesty, we'd both chosen the safe choice of Just Dance given it had done so well for its run at no.1 in the Wii top ten. The formats now are feeling dated, and given that Hero games took up 7 of the 10 nomintations is just insane. Would have been nice to see the good guys at FreeStyle Games for their effort with DJ Hero win. Good luck to next year with DJ Hero 2!

Online Game of the Year
Winner: League of Legends
No Comment on this award I am afraid because most of the time we are either gaming is spent on either the xbox 360 or the iphone but we would like to congraulate the developers for winning in this category especially going against Farmville. I have a feeling the fans of Farmville were to busy posting on my wall on facebook to vote for it!

Portable Game of the Year
Winner: Pokémon Heart Gold/Soul Sliver
Sparkys choice here, he still remains a handheld fan. Though he can't recall when he didn't have anything but Pokemon in his DS! Here's looking forward to Windows Phone 7 games entering the mix in 2011

Puzzle Game of the Year
Winner: World of Goo
We overlooked this game from the shortlist but believe it was deserved in the end.

Racing Game of the Year
Winner: Forza Motorsport 3
We believed that this game was the best in the shortlist by far with its closes rival being Colin McRar: Dirt 2 being the only game to possible beat it from the shortlist.

RPG Game of the Year
Winner: Mass Effect 2
From the shortlist this was the game that has everything that makes a great RPG and we cant wait to see what Bioware come up with next.

Shooter game of the Year
Winner: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
We expected the game to do well and from the reaction the crowd gave when the name was called out everyone in the room was in agreement, the award is well deserved Infinity Ward.

Game Soundtrack of the Year
Winner: Final Fantasy XIII
We really didnt know which game developer this award would have been going home with because every game in the shortlist had an epic soundtrack which is one of the most importand forces behing an smash hit game.

Sports Game of the Year
Winner: FIFA 10
Sparky was rather debatable about this one as he's been a PES fan through and through (see his PES 2011 review) geoneo on the other hand enjoyed FIFA 10 over the newly released FIFA 11 and was pleased to get one up on Sparky.

Strategy Game of the Year
Winner: Plants vs. Zombies
OK, so now they're just being greedy! No, seriously though, top job PopCap! Here's looking forward to Plants Vs Zombies 2

UK Developer of the Year
Winner: Jagex
With Jagex having won it for a second year running, they've done extremely well against some big guns

MSN One to Watch
Winner: Call of Duty: Black Ops
Would have been nice to see something less obvious, but hey its a public vote after all. Brink was great at Eurogamer and could give some other Shooters a run for their money in 2011

Ultimate Game of the Year
Winner: Mass Effect 2
As mentioned there was a bit of a resounding boo amongst the audience when COD:MW2 was announced as runner up. Considering that at this moment in time, the game remains an Xbox360 exclusive, Playstation fans will soon know what the noise is all about when its released next year on that platform.

All in all, not too many suprises. Here's to 2011, looks like there are already some good nominations for next year, but we shall see!
