Rocksmith – A game that aims to actually teach you how to play a Guitar!

Ubisoft have announced a new music genre title which will teach players how to play the electric guitar, known as Rocksmith.

Rocksmith will be based around games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero but will actually teach players how to play the instrument rather than just learning keystroke, something which Seven45 Studios attempted with Power Gig: Rise of the SixString last year. That company announced redundancies shortly after the game's launch.

Ubisoft unveiled the venture via the Hollywood Reporter.

"Guitar Hero is a party game. Rocksmith is a music experience," said Ubisoft's vice president of marketing, Tony Key. "The dream of playing guitar compared to how many follow through - there's a big gap. We will create a new generation of guitar players."

45 licensed songs will be included with the game, including numbers by the Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Nirvana and the Animals.

Just last month, Activision turned off the light on its long standing franchise Guitar Hero to focus on core projects, whilst MTV Games sold Rock Band developer Harmonix after Rock Band 3 wowed critics but failed to perform at retail.

Rocksmith is compatible with "most" electric guitars via an amplifier pickup, but Ubisoft is also negotiating with guitar manufacturer Gibson to bundle a version of the game complete with instrument for around £124 ($200).
